Benedetto Camerana | ATP Finals venues | 2021
Il masterplan delle Nitto ATP Finals, ospitate a Torino dal 14 al 21 novembre 2022, è stato firmato dall’architetto Benedetto Camerana, vincitore a novembre 2020 del Beauty Contest lanciato dalla Federazione Italiana Tennis (FIT). Camerana ha dato forma alle esigenze di un evento di rilevanza internazionale, che ha portato in Italia i più importanti professionisti mondiali del tennis e che si ripeterà in Città per i prossimi 4 anni. La capitale sabauda è infatti venue delle Nitto ATP Finals dal 2021 al 2025. Due gli interventi progettati da Camerana:
-la trasformazione del Pala Alpitour, disegnato dal premio “Pritzker”, Arata Isozaki, per le gare di hockey su ghiaccio in occasione delle Olimpiadi invernali del 2006;
-i due padiglioni di Piazza San Carlo (Torino), uno dei monumentali centri barocchi della Città.
Il progetto si incentra sulla trasformazione del Pala Alpitour, edificio iconico delle Olimpiadi invernali del 2006 accanto allo stadio Comunale, da allora Olimpico, progettato e firmato dal famoso architetto giapponese Arata Isozaki.. Al suo interno Camerana propone e realizza importanti adeguamenti funzionali.
La sua forte identità si definisce nelle scelte volumetriche, un semplice parallelepipedo, e nei materiali utilizzati: il lucente involucro in pannelli di acciaio inossidabile interrotti in modo irregolare da piccole aperture finestrate. Un grande atrio, all’interno, si riflette sulla specchiatura obliqua posteriore a una delle quattro grandi tribune introducendo all’area da gioco.
La proposta progettuale vuole porsi in continuità con la flessibile architettura impostata per le Olimpiadi, non modificando la funzione dell’edificio che riesce ad adattarsi armoniosamente alle nuove richieste, sportive, di intrattenimento e di relazione.

The masterplan of the Nitto ATP Finals, hosted in Turin from November 14 to 21, was designed by architect Benedetto Camerana, winner in November 2020 of the Beauty Contest launched by the Italian Tennis Federation (FIT).
Camerana gave shape to the needs of an event of international relevance, which brought to Italy the most important world professionals of tennis and which will be repeated in the City for the next 4 years. In fact, the Savoy capital will host the Nitto ATP Finals from 2021 to 2025.
Two interventions are designed by Camerana:
-the transformation of Pala Alpitour, designed by the “Pritzker” prize winner, Arata Isozaki, for ice hockey competitions during the 2006 Winter Olympics;
-the two pavilions of Piazza San Carlo (Turin), one of the monumental baroque centers of the City.
The project focuses on the transformation of Pala Alpitour, iconic building of the 2006 Winter Olympics next to the Municipal Stadium,
designed and signed by the famous Japanese architect Arata Isozaki. Its strong identity is defined in the volumetric choices, a simple parallelepiped, and in the materials used: the shiny casing in stainless steel panels irregularly interrupted by small window openings. A large atrium, inside, is reflected on the oblique mirror behind one of the four large grandstands, introducing the playing area.
The design proposal wants to be in continuity with the flexible architecture set up for the Olympics, without changing the function of the building that manages to adapt harmoniously to new demands, sports, entertainment and relationships.
